Which of the four seasons do you love the most and why?

Autumn:  plants start to go to sleep and display their amazing colors...the air gets chilly...sweaters...Halloween and Samhain

Describe your studio in less than 5 words:

Time out of time

What is your favorite part about your studio?

The unfettered thoughts; the senses of awareness and possibility; this is the one arena in which I feel completely confident, even when I'm struggling.

Little known fact about you as an artist?

One of my favorite pieces is a desk blotter from 1995.  I was at a crappy temp job, and I documented each day's activities as a self-portrait-in-action, using ballpoint pens and highlighters.

Did you go to art school or are you self taught?

I graduated from CSU Visual Arts and have taken some drawing/painting courses at Denver's Art Students League.  Practice, practice, practice....

How did you become an artist?

Like many artists, I always had a knack for drawing.  My lovely grandmother worked at a paper factory, and she always provided reams of office paper.  This was paradise for a little kid:  unlimited materials!

Despite my love of drawing, I didn't have a formal art class until high school, where I was very fortunate to have an amazing art teacher who saw my capabilities and encouraged them.  On our first day I sat my sophomore butt on a chair in a semi-darkened room, which was illuminated by a black light.  Pat Abbott made a rambunctious entrance, telling us we were going to make ART and it would be an AMAZING and THRILLING experience, as she spray-painted the word 'ART' on a wall with neon paint.  Who wouldn't want to be an artist after that?!?

Where is your favorite spot in Loveland and why?

My wife and I moved to LoLa only a few months ago.  Right now our favorite spot is in the company of new and interesting people.

If you could interview one person in the world, who would it be?

Jasper Fforde -- his imagination roars and soars in his writing.

Ronda Stone Featured At In The Meantime Gallery

Ronda Stone is the Featured Artist at the Loveland Feed & Grain's In The Meantime Gallery for September and will also be using the building as her studio for The Loveland Art Studio Tour!

What cheers you up?      When I get an idea for a new piece – and coffee with my friend Mark James

Which of the four seasons do you love the most and why?  Summer because I can jump in my car and go anywhere at a minutes notice.  I love being warm and in the light of long days.

  

Describe your studio in less than 5 words:   wonderful, old, unique, interesting

 What is your favorite part about your studio?   The oldness of the Feed & Grain makes it a photographer’s paradise.

 Little know fact about you as an artist?   I didn’t realize art existed until I was in my late 20s.

 Did you go to art school or are you self taught?   BFA from CSU, self taught, and good mentors

How did you become an artist?   I was in my late 20s and went to a friend’s house for coffee.  She was working on an oil painting of the ocean.  I’ve not been the same since that moment.

Where is your favorite spot in Loveland and why?  The coffee shops and Lake Loveland.  The coffee shops give me good coffee, peace, and time to work, read, or have great conversation.  The Lake looks different every day and brings in the herons, pelicans and other wildlife.

What is your favorite medium to work with?  For the first 15 years of my painting life I used oil colors.  Because of their toxicity, I transitioned to acrylic paints and just for fun I add glitter, gold leaf, beads & gem stones, etc.  It was at first a difficult transition, but I am loving it!

What cheers you up?  Being in my studio and blasting the music that inspires me.  Also, being with family & friends or watching a good movie, going for walks, watching nature, metaphysical studies, meditation

Which of the four seasons do you love the most and why?  I have always loved Spring & Fall.  Spring, because nature is awakening and everything becomes colorful again.

Fall, because of it's smells, harvest, the color changes, the crisp air.  I love watching the colorful trees illuminated by sunshine as they are pressed against a brilliant clear azure blue sky. 

Describe your studio in less than 5 words:  Klein aber oh-ho! Meaning: small but great!  

What is your favorite part about your studio?  It is on ground level, has great lighting and is located on the North side of the house, has a separate entrance and unrestricted view of the Rocky Mountains.

Little know fact about you as an artist?  I get my Inspiration mostly from music.  Before I start a painting, I search for a composition that is just right for the moment.   At times I play the same tune until the painting is complete.   At some point in my painting life, I realized that that music always shows up in my paintings.  For the viewer it can be an inspiring & uplifting experience as each painting is paired with the music used in its creation.  It becomes a three-dimensional experience.

Did you go to art school or are you self taught?  I am self taught and have been painting for almost 30 years. 

How did you become an artist?  I realize now that I have always been an artist, I just did not know it.  In my youth I taught arts & crafts to young children.  It came just naturally and I've always been around creative people.  I wrote many plays for puppet shows, painted back drops performed them and gave music lessons.  In my 30s I started to paint because I faced empty walls in my new home.  So I decided to do-it-myself.  I never imagined then that painting will become my life. 

Where is your favorite spot in Loveland and why?  Sculpture Park & Devils Backbone, both are inspiring!

If you could interview one person in the world, who would it be?   My grandmother

Jacqua Schmich

Jacqua Schmich grew up in Nebraska on a wheat and cattle farm. She moved to Colorado in 1965 where she became fascinated with the beauty of the Rocky Mountains. Growing Success as a plein air painter enabled her to commit to painting full time in 1984. Since then she has painted consistently on location and in her studio, creating paintings on the Colorado and New Mexico areas. 1) Who is your favorite artist?  No one favorite -- love the impressionists and the colorists.

2)  Describe yourself in two words.  Over booked.

3)   Describe your studio in two words.  Time machine.

4)   What is your favorite thing to do in Loveland?  Visit sculptors and shops on 4th Street.

5)   A little know fact about you?  I was the Fashion Editor of the Chicago's American newspaper in the mid- to late-60's, during the Beatles and bra-burning days.

1) Who is your favorite artist?  "Rud Kahle, Janet Alix, Giovanni Corvaja, Harlan Butts, Mike Boyd, John Dyer, Glenn Leher. The list can go on and on"

2)  Describe yourself in two words.- "unusual craftsman" or "born teacher" or perhaps "rock head".

3)   Describe your studio in two words. "Small, intimate"

4)   What is your favorite thing to do in Loveland ? - "The Sculpture Shows and Art in the Park."

5)   A little know fact about you? - "At one time, I was a certified professional ski instructor."

"I would love to set up a metalsmithing school here in Loveland and really show the art community that "crafts" is not a dirty word! Maybe have a metals/jewelry show at the museum. This medium is really doing spectacular things in the last 10-20 yrs."
